Dr. Aris Antsaklis studied medicine at the Athens University and was trained as an Obstetrician Gynecologist. Ιn 1975, he was a Council of Europe research fellow and honorary lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University College Hospital, University of London and in 1976 at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Yale University. In 1977, he was appointed senior registrar of the Fetal Ultrasound and high risk pregnancies at the 1st Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology – University of Athens “Alexandra” Maternity Hospital”. He was appointed Reader by the Medical School of the Athens University and in 1982 he became Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Athens University. In 1993 Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In 2002 he was appointed as Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Fetal and Perinatal Medicine and Director (2005) in the 1st Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the University of Athens “Alexandra” Maternity Hospital”.
He has participated as Invited Speaker in more than 500 Conferences, Seminars and Congresses, while his present research is mainly in the field of Fetal, Maternal and Perinatal Medicine.
He is the author and co-author of 750 publications in the International and Hellenic pre-reviewed journals as well as of more than 400 articles in PubMed. He has written 40 chapters in International and Greek medical books. He is editor of many Greek journals.
At the national level he served as President of the Hellenic Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology and he is the Founder, President and member of the Executive Board in many Hellenic Societies in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ultrasound , Perinatal and Fetal Medicine.
At an international level, he has served as President and Member of the Executive Board of many Societies such as The World Association of Perinatal Medicine (WAPM), The fetus as a patient, the European Association of Perinatal Medicine (EAPM), the International Academy of Perinatal Medicine (IAPM), the Mediterranean Society for Ultrasound of Ob/Gyn (MEDUOG), the South-East European Society of Perinatal Medicine (SEESPM),Director of the Greek Branch of the Ian Donald International and he is one of the founders of the “International Fetoscopy Working Group”.
Professor Aris Antsaklis has received major national and international scientific awards including the SORANOS Science award for his contribution in the field in Perinatal Medicine and Prenatal Diagnosis (2003), the Sir William Liley” Award from the International Society “The Fetus as a Patient” (2005), the highest award in Perinatal Medicine the “Maternity Prize” for the European Association of Perinatal Medicine (EAPM)(2010), the “George Papanicolaou Award” by the Hellenic medical Society of New York, in recognition of his contribution to women’s health (2011), the Erich Saling Perinatal Prize from the World Association of Perinatal Medicine (2013).
He was rewarded with Honorary Professorship: at the Dubrovnik University (Invited Professor) (1998), at the Buenos Aires University (2012), at the University of Tomsk (2013), at the Vienna Medical School (2016) he was elected as Adjunct Professor as recognition to his contribution and cooperation with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
He was awarded by the Serbian and Montenegro Association of Perinatal Medicine for his popularization of Perinatal Medicine and developing connections amongst countries (2005) and he was elected as : Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science (2007), as honorary member of the Croatian Association of Perinatal Medicine for his outstanding contribution to the development of world perinatal medicine (2009), as Honorary Member of the Russian Association of the Perinatal Medicine and as Honorary Member of the Society of Perinatal Medicine of Republic of Moldova (2011), in Bucharest as Honorary Member of the Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology of Romania (2012).
